In the difficult times of the pandemic, we lost the definition of the word – freedom. Limited movement, lost rights in the fog, uncertainty, distrust in institutions, mental collapse have influenced us to forget what our freedoms are and who we are essentially. On the other hand, many have become aware of the concepts of freedom in their lives, turned to work on themselves, artistic creation, music, yoga, digital design. So we wonder in what way and from what aspect you look at the word freedom in today’s personal vocabulary?
The Freedom performance is conceived as an innovative theatrical experience that combines classical theatrical elements with new technologies and the Internet, so the project will connect artists and experts in the field new technologies and digital communications.
The project will result with a theatrical play, a theatrical experience, a live film, an inside-out performance – which will arise from the accumulation of an intensive educational andresearch process. Young artists will research personal freedoms, freedoms within the community, freedom of movement, freedom of expression, freedom of opinion, freedom of cultural diversity. When we talk about a very broad concept, which will be participatory mapped, we are talking about respect for human rights, the safety of vulnerable groups.
The Freedom performance is conceived as an experience that combines the virtual and real world, digital technologies and analog tools, public and private space. It combines theater because it is performed live, and uses film tools because we watch the movie live. The audience will go through an online and live theatrical experience. The audience will through the whole performance be getting pieces of puzzle through digital media that they’ll have to follow to get a story. The performance will be performed in 4 different locations and then merged in to the on live performance.

At a time of significant change – with the continued mass movement of people and arrival into Europe of refugees; disturbing breakdown in community cohesion; the implications of BREXIT; and the current Covid 19 situation – ArtReach and partners want to focus on the positive impact of creative integration through art and culture, helping to forge new sense of identity and place (both locally and Europe-wide) through artistic collaborations. LIBERTY EU will conclude with a five month pan- European programme from May to September 2022, utilising new technology to share works and ideas as widely as possible.
